The name of the church translates literally: tskhrakara means nine gates. What lies behind such a name, a feature of the building itself or the name of a locality, is not explained by local tradition, and no dedication is given for the church either.
It stands beyond the limits of Kvareli, about five kilometres from the town, among vineyards. The Kvareli neighbourhood is rich in sanctuaries, and nearly all of them lie outside the town: the Trinity church to the west, the Kindzmarauli monastery, the Kuchatani churches and the site by Kvareli Lake.
There is no fixed schedule of services and the site can be approached at any time. The road from the town is short, but the turning to the church is unpaved, and after rain it is better to walk the rest. The trip combines well with a wine route through the Kvareli villages: the distances here are short.
