The name Kindzmarauli is familiar to anyone with even a passing knowledge of Georgian wine, but here it belongs to a locality near Kvareli rather than to the community itself: the monastery is dedicated to the Holy Trinity, and the two are unconnected.
It stands beyond the town limits, among the vineyards that yield the wine of the same name. All around lies the Kvareli neighbourhood: the Trinity church west of the town, the Tskhrakara church, the churches of Kuchatani and Kvareli Lake at the foot of the Caucasus range.
The community is active, so the rules are stricter than in a village church: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet in the yard and inside. It is better to ask before photographing the buildings. The trip combines well with a wine route, though the monastery is best visited before the tastings rather than after.
