The chapel of the Transfiguration stands in the western part of Bodbiskhevi. In the Georgian tradition the feast is called peristsvaleba, literally a change of appearance, and this dedication is met among small structures more often than among large parish churches.
Bodbiskhevi stands out even against a Kakheti rich in churches: about half a dozen church buildings are scattered across different ends of the village. The name reads roughly as the Bodbe ravine and refers to the Bodbe area, although the famous monastery of Saint Nino stands apart, closer to Sighnaghi. The chapel lies away from the main village street.
The chapel keeps no fixed schedule, which is normal for a small building: you can walk up and see it from outside at any time. Inside it is entered on occasion, in covered clothing and with quiet voices.
