The church of St. Theodore on the north-eastern edge of Shibliani, above the Mother of God church, is the village’s other church. St. Tevdore, as this warrior martyr is called in Georgian, has already appeared in these parts: his namesakes stand in Toloshi on the Vardzia road and in New Athos.
The Theodore church is the upper, quiet half of the Shibliani pair: a dirt road leads here from the Mother of God church in the centre, and from the village edge the Kakhetian plain opens up. A short walk with open space for a reward: from here both Shibliani and the distant vineyards are visible.
The church is seen freely, with ordinary rural courtesy: a quiet voice, modest dress, respect for the yards. The dirt road is passable in dry weather.
