The Mother of God church in the residential part of Shibliani is the church of a village between Badiauri and Kachreti, north of the Kakheti highway. The church bears the name Dedaghvtismshobeli, as the Mother of God is called in Georgian, and this warm, homely word sets the tone for the whole place.
Shibliani lives away from the wine flows of greater Kakheti, and the church among the yards is its quiet centre. Higher up, on the north-eastern edge, stands the village’s another church, of St. Theodore: a pair for a short walk from the centre to the edge, some fifteen minutes at a calm pace.
One enters freely, with ordinary rural courtesy: modest dress, a quiet voice, respect for the yards. If the church is shut, a look from outside and a walk along the street are enough: the village is small and covered whole in half an hour.
