The church of Saint George stands in the southern part of Babaneuri, a village right at the entrance to the Alazani valley. This is the third of its four church buildings.
Babaneuri is notable in that no dedication repeats within it: a Trinity church, the Deity church, this one of Saint George and a church of Saint Marine to the west. For a Kakhetian village, where Saint George and the Virgin usually dominate, such variety is rare. All four buildings lie within a couple of kilometres, so they can be walked in an hour or so.
A village church may keep no fixed schedule; service times are learned on site. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women, and speak quietly on the grounds.
