The church of Saint Barbara stands in Shashiani. The church also carries a second name, Vazisubanis sanagire, referring to a neighbouring locality: such double names are not rare in Kakheti and usually point to the ground on which a building stands.
Shashiani lies north of Vachnadziani, away from the main highway, reached by a road across the fields. Besides this church the village holds two more buildings: Kvelatsminda, dedicated to All Saints, and one of the Virgin in the upper part. All three stand close enough to cover the village in a single visit.
