The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity: Sameba in Georgian, one of the commonest dedications in the country. The definition reads straight from the name, and the church carries no second title.
Shashiani lies on the Alazani plain north of Gurjaani, among vineyards. The Trinity church stands in the eastern part of the village, while the Kviratskhoveli church is closer to the centre. Between Shashiani and neighbouring Kalauri, on the lands where the two villages meet, stands the monastery of John the Baptist.
There is no fixed schedule of services and the site can be approached at any time. The roads in the village are level and the three sanctuaries of the neighbourhood can be driven round in about an hour. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet inside, no photography during a service.
