The church of the Mother of God stands at Akhateli near Karajala village in Telavi Municipality. The hall is laid of cobble and brick, with all the finer parts built in brick: the door and window openings, the reliefs, the cornice, the pilasters, the conch of the apse and the vault.
Entrances are made in all three walls and the doorways are arched throughout, set in a recessed frame. The windows are arched with a stepped sill. The semicircular apse is separated from the hall by a side wall and raised by a step, two wide arched niches run north of its window and one to the south, all of different heights, and a brick altar table is built in the centre of the sanctuary. Pilasters divide the long walls, half pilasters stand at the corners, and arches are thrown across them.
The main thing here is outside: the brick is laid so that the recesses of the masonry draw crosses. A single Golgotha cross reads on the east gable, three crosses on the west wall, and a row of lozenges descends from their bases to the threshold of the door. The floor is paved with brick and the roof is tiled. Sources assign the church to the 18th century and lists it as a cultural heritage monument.
