A church called Ghvtaeba. The word means the Divinity, and in church usage it names churches of the Saviour, dedicated to God in Trinity or to the Transfiguration. It appears often in Kakhetian place naming, and an old parish almost always stands behind it.
The church belongs to the Akhateli locality by the village of Karajala, north-west of Telavi. The village itself is notable for speaking mainly Azerbaijani: Kakheti, like Kvemo Kartli, was assembled over centuries from communities of two languages, and an Orthodox church a step away from such a village surprises no one here. Another church of the locality, dedicated to the Mother of God, stands about two hundred metres off. The age of the buildings is not established.
Both churches of the locality can be walked in a few minutes. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. The last stretch of road is a village one, and in wet weather a dry day is the better choice.
