The Kvelatsminda church stands in Gavazi, about half a kilometre from the main Marian church of the village. The word kvelatsminda means all holy and in Kakheti usually marks a dedication to All Saints.
Gavazi belongs to Kvareli Municipality and lies in the vineyard belt on the left bank of the Alazani. The Caucasus range rises to the north, while the valley with its villages and wineries stretches south. The village is small and its houses run along the road.
A headscarf is useful for women, as it may be required at the entrance. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
