A parish church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God. The village name breaks into two familiar words: vardi, a rose, and ubani, a quarter. The rose quarter. We unpacked the word ubani at neighbouring Kartubani, and here it works the same way.
The Dormition in Georgian is midzineba, literally a falling asleep, and the feast falls at the end of August, which in rural Georgia coincides with the start of the harvest. Vardisubani lies north of Lagodekhi, in eastern Kakheti. The century of building is not established.
The yard is open and can be approached at any time on any day. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf, and keep quiet inside.
