Basilica of Dolochopi, Kakheti, Georgia

The Dolochopi Basilica, located in the picturesque Kakheti region northwest of the city of Kvareli, is a spectacular archaeological find. This ancient temple was discovered during archaeological excavations in 2010 and dates back to the first half of the 5th century. Although written documents about it have not survived, its history is riddled with mysteries and secrets from the time of the invasion of Marwan Ibn Muhammad.

The Basilica of Dolochopi appears to have gone through several periods of construction and destruction, including the High Middle Ages, when a cemetery arose on the site of the destroyed temple, damaging the remains of its original structure.
