The church of the Virgin Mary stands in Akura village of Telavi Municipality. It is one of the two village churches: together with the Prophet Elijah church it carries the parish life of Akura.
The village lies at the foot of the Tsiv-Gombori range, on the edge of the Alazani valley, among the vineyards of Kakheti. The two churches stand within walking distance of each other, and the Mama Daviti monastery is active in the foothills west of the village.
Visiting is free, and modest clothing is appropriate for a service. If the church is closed, villagers will tell you when services are held.
