The church of the Prophet Elijah stands in Akura village of Telavi Municipality. It is an active Orthodox church where villagers come for services and family rites.
Akura lies at the foot of the forested Tsiv-Gombori range, on the edge of the Alazani valley. The village is rich in holy places: the Virgin Mary church is also active here, and the Mama Daviti monastery stands in the foothills to the west.
Visiting is free, and modest clothing is appropriate for a service. If the doors are closed, locals will tell you when services are held.
