Church of the Virgin Okono Argveti, Imereti, Georgia

The Church of Our Lady Okono Argveti is a majestic architectural work steeped in history, located in the municipality of Sachkhere in Zemo Imereti.

This is a magnificent hall-style structure with an impressive apse on the east side, decorated with an arched window along the central axis. Made of carefully honed limestone, the church is striking in its details - the two-story altar shoulders, the supporting arches of the conch and exquisite vaulted elements. The longitudinal walls are decorated with two-tiered pilasters, while the southern and northern walls are decorated with architrave doors and rectangular windows, adding to the grandeur of this sacred place.

Although time has not been kind to the facades, they still carry with them the grandeur of the past, into which they skillfully fit. On the eastern façade of the church, a decorated cross in relief symbolizes the spiritual heritage of this place, although the high relief of a ram that previously adorned it has long since collapsed.

A few steps to the west rises a three-story bell tower, which is not only a sacred building, but also a monument to art. Its third floor has been turned into a gazebo, offering stunning views of the surrounding area.
