How much money was thrown by tourists into the Roman Trevi spring?

Employees of the Roman energy company ACEA, in accordance with the number of tourists arriving, periodically collect coins from the fountain. The tradition of throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain in memory of his trip to Rome brought an over-hopeful amount of finance, the amount of which is a record 1.6 million euros. This is reported by the RIA Novosti news agency with reference to the charity organization Caritas, which distributes the collected funds.

An enthusiastic Caritas representative stated: "We have not calculated a specific amount yet, as we have to exchange coins of different currencies for euros. However, this is a record amount, which is approaching 1.6 million euros. Last year we raised 1.43 million euros."

According to a Caritas representative, employees of the Roman energy company ACEA, which is also responsible for the city's water supply, periodically collect coins from the fountain depending on the number of tourists. During the period of the largest influx of tourists, the Trevi Fountain is cleared of coins almost every day. The collected coins are sealed in bags and then sent for sorting and conversion, after which they end up in Caritas.

The coins, collected from all over the world and equivalent to one and a half million euros, weigh as much as 33 tons. The annual "income" of the Trevi Fountain exceeds the profit of the average Roman museum. For example, the National Roman Museum earns a little over one million euros per year.
