Prometheus Cave
Prometheus Cave is located near Kutaisi, near Tskaltubo. This local landmark is considered the pearl of Georgia.
The cave is named after the ancient Greek hero Prometheus, who was severely punished by the gods of Olympus, because he gave people light and warmth – divine fire. According to legend, Prometheus was chained to a rock in the Caucasus Mountains. And in this cave, according to local legends, rebel heroes were also chained.
The length of the cave tunnels is about 11 km, but you can visit only 1.5 km. There are many passages and 17 large halls, the height of which can reach more than 20 meters.
There are underground rivers and even lakes in the cave. It is cool here even in the hottest time of the year, because of the high humidity and constant temperature of about 14 degrees.
Excursions are long, so when visiting the Prometheus cave, you should take warm clothes with you so as not to freeze.
