Overview of the activities of the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Adjara in 2023

Important tourist attractions of Adjara were presented at 30 international tourism exhibitions and events in different parts of the world. Prestigious cities such as Berlin, Madrid, Milan, Dubai, Paris, Barcelona, Prague, Vienna and Budapest also got acquainted with the potential of the seaside resorts of Georgia and the mountainous regions of Adjara.

In addition, the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Adjara conducted many press tours for representatives of international media, popular bloggers and influencers. As a result, millions of people around the world have learned about the tourism potential of Adjara. In the last eight months of 2023, the number of visitors to the Adjara region exceeded 2 million, indicating an increase of 46% compared to 2022 and 20% compared to 2019.

Chairman of the Government of the Adjara Autonomous Republic Tornike Rizhvadze noted the successful holding of the maritime tourist season in the region and the preservation of positive dynamics in the number of visitors. Compared to the record year of 2019, the number of visitors increased by 20%. Compared to 2022, this figure has increased by 46%. The number of international flights to Batumi also increased by 12% compared to 2022 and by 6% compared to 2019.

However, Rizhvadze noted that some groups carried out a campaign related to the quality of water in the Black Sea, which had a negative impact on the tourism industry this year.
