The Church of the Holy Trinity in Gergeti is the first church on the way from Russia to Georgia
Stepantsminda is the first settlement on the territory of Georgia that meets a road traveler from Russia. The Georgian military road begins here.
The proximity of a road connecting several states is not a plus in choosing a place for the construction of a temple. The Temple of the Holy Trinity was built by monks in the 14th century at the foot of Mount Kazbek at an altitude of 2200 meters above sea level.
The inaccessibility of the temple saved it from looting during the wars and from vandalism during the Soviet period. Currently, the Church of the Holy Trinity has been restored as an active monastery.
The entrance to the temple is free for tourists who observe the rules of conduct on the territory of the monastery.
You can get here through the village of Gergeti on foot along a scenic trail or by taxi along a new paved road.
