Flea Market in Tbilisi — Ethnological open-air Museum
Not all the iconic places of Georgia are from the Middle Ages. In the old part of Tbilisi, near the Dry Bridge, there is a flea market — a young attraction of the city.
This market, more like a museum of history, ethnography and folk crafts, appeared at this place in the 90s of the last century. During the difficult time of independence for the country, people had nothing to live on.
Residents of Tbilisi brought out for sale what could be sold: personal belongings, family heirlooms and household utensils. The hard times are over, but the market remains.
Now it is a tourist destination of the city. Here they buy traditional Georgian pottery, Georgian felt — wool products made in ancient Georgian technique, Georgian cloisonne enamel Minankari, handmade by Georgian craftsmen.
Tourists take away from here collectible cameras, carpets, paintings, pre-revolutionary dishes. Souvenirs and unique purchases of the flea market at the Dry Bridge are not the main thing.
Communication with people is priceless — learning the nature of the country, its history, culture, through a conversation with a trader in the market.
