When is the grape and fruit harvest season in Georgia?
Rtveli, fruit by month and when to buy what.
Short answer
The grape harvest, rtveli, takes place in September and October: in Kakheti usually from mid-September to mid-October, and slightly later in western Georgia. Cherries ripen in May and June, apricots and peaches in summer, figs in August and September, and pomegranates, persimmons, feijoa and tangerines in autumn and early winter. Fruit at the markets is tastiest and cheapest in season.
Why
- During rtveli many wineries invite guests to pick grapes and tread them in a vat.
- Tangerines in Adjara and Guria are picked from November to January.
- Fresh churchkhela appears in autumn after the harvest.
Details
To join rtveli, book a Kakheti trip for September or early October in advance. Exact harvest dates depend on the weather and grape variety.
Tip
To join the rtveli harvest, arrange it in advance with a family winery; many welcome guests.
