City attractions
It's no surprise that Akhaltsikhe boasts an impressive number of historical structures and buildings. Most of them are free for tourists to visit.
The city's main attractions include:
- Rabat Fortress;
- Sapara Monastery;
- Royal Temple;
- Vardzia City Cave.

Rabat Fortress
This fortress is one of Akhaltsikhe's most important attractions. Situated on a hill, it opens up to tourists immediately from the train station. The Rabati Fortress boasts a history spanning one thousand years. Built in the twelfth century, it was stormed and captured several times. By the twenty-first century, the fortress was in a state of almost complete ruin, and it was only in 2011 that Georgian authorities decided to reconstruct it. In 2012, it was completely reconstructed and opened to tourists and locals. The structure covers an area of seven hectares and is divided into two parts. The upper part of the fortress is elevated, while the lower part is on level ground.
The two parts are separated by a wall. There is only one entrance in the wall, through which tourists can enter the upper part of the fortress. In this case, the upper part serves as the fortress's museum complex, and admission is subject to a fee. An adult ticket costs seven Georgian lari. The fortress's perimeter features numerous historical monuments. The upper part of the fortress is open to visitors from Tuesday until the end of the week.
You can visit it from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The lower part is open to tourists 24 hours a day and is completely free to explore. After passing through the huge gates, you'll find yourself in an area designed for strolling with family and friends. This area features comfortable decks and stunning swimming pools. A grape vine with an interesting, artistic shape is also planted here.
The lower part houses a hotel for all visiting guests and tourists. It is a large structure with a stunning and unusual interior. A glance at the balconies of this building will reveal that they are entirely made of wood. The staff at this hotel is very friendly and polite. When you arrive in this city, you'll have the opportunity to take advantage of all the comfortable services for a truly relaxing stay. On the territory of this building there are: cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, wine shops, as well as all the necessary organizations that will make your stay pleasant and comfortable.

Saparsky Temple
This temple is located in the mountains, ten kilometers from the city. About twenty monks reside there. The Sapara Temple is a historic structure and is part of the city's property. Its grounds contain monuments dating back a thousand years. It was built in the tenth century. Inside, the Sapara Temple boasts numerous sculptures and stained-glass images on the walls.
The monastery grounds also include a domed church, built in the thirteenth century. There is also a bell tower, composed of solid, monolithic stone slabs. Small ancient tower-like structures then extend down the slope. Entrances to the temple are located on the north and west sides. Unfortunately, the southern part of the structure is closed, as it is used for household purposes.

The Royal Temple
This structure was recently built, thanks to the collaboration between local authorities and the fortress city administration in 2009. This temple was erected in honor of Queen Tamar, the only woman to rule the country independently. At first glance, the temple appears somewhat simple. However, upon entering, you will see beautiful painted images on the walls, as well as a golden altar. In front of it stands a large, tall monument dedicated to the queen.
Queen Tamar is a highly revered figure among the Georgian people. During her reign, people were able to grow a variety of vegetables and fruits, thereby earning a living. Traditionally, Georgians celebrate the festival dedicated to this ruler with special fervor.

Vardzia City Cave
Sixty kilometers from this city lies another amazing landmark in the country. This structure is carved into a cliff face located at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level. Throughout its history, this city has been repeatedly invaded by foreign nations, as well as subjected to numerous earthquakes.
Several years ago, it was under state control. If we return to the period of its history during the Soviet era, we will notice that the city was in a dilapidated state. Consequently, the authorities decided to close it to tourists. Several decades later, it was reconstructed and restored, and it was reopened to the public.
This structure is divided into two parts. The first is intended for tours, while the second is closed to visitors, as monks reside in this part of the temple. Hospitals and other institutions have also been built in the rocks from which the city is carved. The grounds include a temple containing portraits of the Georgian queen and unique murals. Frescoes depicting the queen's father have also been preserved here.
Looking up at the top of the building, you can see a platform designed for observing the beautiful mountain landscapes. A huge number of historical monuments have survived to this day in this city. Visiting here will reveal the lives of our ancestors, their daily lives, and their personal lives. This city carefully preserves all the historical buildings and their surrounding areas, reflecting the centuries-old history associated with the development of Georgia.

In conclusion, I'd like to note that the number of tourists visiting this city is growing every year. Tourism development in the region has improved dramatically. Upon arriving in Akhaltsikhe, you'll realize there's no need to buy expensive tickets and fly abroad to enjoy a comfortable vacation. Everything here is designed for an interesting and enjoyable stay.
After visiting, you'll see local attractions and immerse yourself in the country's historical period. We're confident you'll be satisfied and experience a wealth of positive emotions. Akhaltsikhe is one of the few places on Earth that has preserved its ancient history in its authentic, unaltered form. This allows all tourists and visitors to experience it in real life.

Facts from the history of neighboring countries related to the development of Georgia
The resistance of Gandhi and Nehru. Ultimately, both sides came to the conclusion that the Muslim territories needed to be carved out into a separate state of Pakistan. Ultimately, independence and the partition of the former British colony into India and Pakistan brought considerable suffering to the inhabitants of the new states. Between 7 and 8 million people lost their homeland in India and fled to Pakistan during the chaos that reigned around them.
Approximately the same number emigrated in the opposite direction. Hundreds of thousands died during the conflict unleashed by religious fanatics. Simultaneously with India's independence on August 15, 1947, the new state of Pakistan was formed, consisting of two parts: West Pakistan (the territory of modern-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (the territory of modern-day Bangladesh).
After the Indian Independence Act came into force, the primary tasks of the new government became the Indianization of the administrative apparatus and the armed forces, the preparation of a new constitution, and the development of a system of relations with the constituent entities of the federation.

The problem of defining India's state borders remained unresolved and depended on the development of a formula for the accession of the princely states to the Indian Union. The Ministry determined the procedure for the transfer of political power from the princely states to the central government of the Indian Union and the dissolution or integration of princely military units into the Indian regular army.
The accession of the princely states to India or Pakistan, according to the provisions of the Indian Independence Act of 1947, depended on the will of their representatives. Between 1947 and 1949, 555 of the 601 princely states acceded to India, while the remainder became part of Pakistan.
The process of integrating the princely states into the Dominion was difficult in a number of regions and encountered resistance, including armed resistance. This situation was typically characteristic of regions with a high concentration of Muslim populations. The most difficult situation arose in the princely states of Hyderabad and Jammu and Kashmir. While the deployment of Indian troops within a year resolved the issue of the annexation of the first princely state of Hyderabad and Jammu, the situation in Kashmir remained unresolved throughout the subsequent period of India's independent development. This subsequently led to several military conflicts.
