Marneuli: Churches and Mosques — What to See in the City
One of Marneuli's main distinguishing features is its ethnicity—the majority of the city's residents, approximately 80%, are Azerbaijani. Marneuli only received city status in 1964, and before that, it had undergone several name changes, including Borchali and Sarvan.
The city has seen several major military battles in its history. In the 17th century, Georgian troops clashed with Iranian invaders near the Algeti River. Although the Georgians had initial success, the battle ultimately ended in defeat: the army commanded by Giorgi Saakadze was routed, and the Iranians captured Tbilisi.
According to the 2014 census, the city's population is over 20,000. There are several small businesses that are unlikely to attract tourists—they produce neither wine nor tea. A wholesale and retail market is located within the city limits.

There are two universities: the Heydar Aliyev Georgian-Azerbaijani University and a branch of Tbilisi State University.
The city boasts a variety of religious buildings, including churches and mosques. One of the most famous is the Tserakavi Monastery, built approximately in the 12th-13th centuries.
Marneuli is a favorite among tourists and travelers seeking active recreation. It boasts picturesque nature, stunning landscapes, a river, beaches, and fishing.
