Why Real Reviews Matter More Than Fake Ones
Reviews are one of the main factors in a client's decision: go to you or to a competitor. The temptation to "boost" your rating with a few purchased reviews is understandable. But in the long run, fake reviews work against your business. This article explains why, and what to do instead.
Why Fake Reviews Damage Your Business
Fake reviews are detectable. Users and moderation systems have learned to distinguish genuine reviews from fake ones. Template wording, accounts with no history, reviews posted in batches on the same day, lack of specifics - all these signs are immediately visible.
Fake reviews create false expectations. A client arrives expecting what was described in glowing reviews, receives ordinary service - and leaves a negative genuine review. The result: 50 fake five-stars and one real one-star that weighs more than all the rest.
Fake reviews can lead to listing removal. Under our Review Moderation Policy, if organised fake review activity is detected, we remove all suspicious reviews. In serious cases, the listing may be blocked.
Wasted money. A package of fake reviews on five different platforms costs as much as a real marketing campaign. The difference is that marketing works to attract clients, while fake reviews work against you.
How to Get Genuine Reviews
Ask clients to leave a review right after a good experience. The best moment is when the client has just received the service and the impression is fresh. A week later they will not return to this task.
Make your request specific. Not "leave us a review" but "tell us what you especially liked - it helps other clients". A specific request gives a specific review.
Make the process easy. Give a direct link to your Madloba listing - the client should need minimum clicks. If the link has to be searched for, the review will not be written.
Respond to reviews - all of them. Responding to a positive review shows you value clients. Responding to a negative one shows you are ready to solve problems. Active brand communication builds trust. More
Reward through quality, not gifts. Discounts in exchange for reviews are a grey area that often turns into fake review activity. The best incentive is excellent service that clients want to talk about.
What Madloba Does to Protect Against Fake Reviews
Madloba.info checks reviews against several parameters: author account history, timing and frequency of publication, content of the review. Suspicious reviews are removed after verification.
This works both ways: we protect honest businesses from competitor fake reviews, and we protect users from false impressions. If you notice fake review activity targeting a competitor - write to [email protected] with links to specific reviews, and we will investigate.
