The church of St. Elijah in Kvishkheti is the youngest church of the village circle, some hundred and fifty metres from the Resurrection church. The small Elijah church complements its big neighbour: people look in on the way, for a minute of quiet without a service or a crowd: the door is usually open, and inside are a couple of icons and a candle stand.
On the route through the Kvishkheti churches it plays the quiet middle: the Resurrection sets the tone, the Transfiguration above gives the views, the Iveron holds the western side, and the Elijah between them reminds that a church can be the size of a room and no less real for it.
One enters freely, with ordinary courtesy: a quiet voice and modest dress. Elijah’s Day, the second of August, is the chief day of the year here.
