The church of the Iveron icon of the Mother of God in Kvishkheti is the church of an old dacha village above the right bank of the Mtkvari, at the entrance to the Borjomi gorge. The full dedication sounds solemn, to the Athonite Iveron icon of the All-Holy Mother of God, and it ties a quiet Kartli village to the Athonite tradition.
Kvishkheti has been loved by dacha folk for generations, and there are three churches here at once: the Iveron in the western part, the Resurrection in the centre and the Transfiguration above, with the small Elijah church beside the Resurrection. The Iveron church opens this village circle from the western side.
One enters freely, with the usual courtesy of a working church: modest dress, a quiet voice, respect for a service. A round of all the village churches takes a couple of hours at an easy pace.
