The church of St. Nicholas stands in Sanebeli village in the west of Shida Kartli. Nikoloz is the Georgian name of St. Nicholas, the patron of travellers and seafarers.
Sanebeli lies north of Kareli, in the hills above the Kura valley. The monastery of the Nativity near Vedreba and the St. George church of Kekhijvari stand a couple of kilometres away, with the well-known Samtsevrisi church to the east.
Regular services may not be held, and the church can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and candles and offerings are left in their places.
