The church of St. George stands in Kekhijvari village in the west of Shida Kartli. The village name echoes jvari, a cross: in Georgia such names often go to places with an old wayside cross.

The village lies very close to Kareli, on the left bank of the Kura. The well-known church of Samtsevrisi stands nearby on a rise.

Regular services may not be held, and the church can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and candles and offerings are left in their places.

Kekhidjvari is a lovely village in the Kareli region of eastern Georgia. It's home to the beautiful Saint George Church, which sits on a lovely hill. This church, dating back to the late feudal period, has been recently restored, making it a great spot for Orthodox travelers.

When I arrived, the peaceful vibe and the well-kept church, filled with icons and candles, welcomed me. Right next to it is a small cemetery, adding to its historical appeal. The views from the hill are stunning, providing a serene and picturesque experience.

To get to the church, you turn right off the main village road. The drive is mostly on asphalt, but the last 500 meters are gravel, so you need to be a bit careful. Nevertheless, the beautiful scenery and calm atmosphere make the trip worthwhile.

Visiting this place during spring, early summer, or late autumn is highly recommended, as the weather is pleasant and the scenery is vibrant. Whether you're an Orthodox traveler or just someone who enjoys history and nature, this small church and its surroundings are definitely worth checking out. The tranquil atmosphere, rich history, and gorgeous views make it a memorable spot in the Georgian countryside.
