The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Sameba is a dedication borne in Georgia both by the main cathedral in Tbilisi and by village churches like this one: the difference in scale is vast, while the place in the calendar and in daily life is the same.
The church stands in the western part of Karaleti, about a kilometre from the Marian church of the village. Such spacing is typical of large Georgian villages: parishes formed by quarter, and each end of the settlement had its own church. Karaleti holds half a dozen such buildings.
Walking the whole village is realistic in an hour and a half: the distances between churches are measured in hundreds of metres rather than kilometres. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf. The Kviratskhoveli chapel of the same village stands further north.
