The Karmeli monastery stands in the hills near Gverdzineti village in the west of Shida Kartli. Karmeli is the Georgian name of Mount Carmel, known from the books about the prophet Elijah.
Two churches of the community share the same ground: the church of Zebulon and Sosanna and the church of the prophet Elijah. The area lies south of Khashuri, in the wooded spurs above the Kura valley.
The usual monastic rules apply here: covered shoulders and knees, and quiet. Photography and attending services are best agreed with the residents.
