The church is dedicated to the Archangels, mtavarangelozi in Georgian. In the Georgian tradition this is a collective dedication to the archangels Michael and Gabriel, and such churches were often built on raised ground with a view over the valley.
The site lies near the village of Gomi, south-west of Kaspi; the church is also called a Kaspi one after the district centre, although it stands among the rural surroundings. About a kilometre and a half away the church of John the Baptist in Kvemo Gomi is active: the two combine well in a single trip. Further south-west the road runs on towards Metekhi.
The turning to the church is unpaved and turns heavy in wet weather, so it is better to drive when dry. The usual rules for an active church apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, a headscarf for women.
