The church of John the Baptist stands in Kvemo Gomi, a village of the Kaspi municipality. The prefix kvemo means lower, and the village forms a pair with an upper Gomi further up the slope.
A frequent confusion is worth clearing at once: another Gomi lies in the Khashuri municipality some seventy kilometres to the west, and that is an entirely different place with a different church. This village sits on the road towards Metekhi, south-west of Kaspi. About a kilometre and a half away stands another church of the area, dedicated to the Archangels, so the two are easily seen in turn.
The church is active and open during the day, longer at weekends than on weekdays; the Sunday service begins in the morning. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women, and agree photography inside beforehand.
