The church of St. Nino in Klde is the parish church of a village by the road from Akhaltsikhe to Borjomi. Klde means rock in Georgian: the village took its name from the surrounding cliffs, and the church of the Enlightener of Georgia stands very much in place in this stony landscape: the grey cliffs beyond the fence serve the church as a natural backdrop.
For a traveller it is a handy pause on the stretch between two valleys: a couple of minutes off the highway, a modest church and cliffs around. Further along the same road stands the St. Nicholas church in Tsnisi: two villages in a row, both stops short, and together they fit into an hour.
One enters freely, with the usual courtesy of a working church: modest dress, a quiet voice, respect for a service if one is under way. The visit takes a quarter of an hour, the cliff view included.
