The church of Saint Nino stands on the edge of Khospio village in Akhalkalaki Municipality, on the left bank of the river. The hall is laid of ashlars of varied colour, the walls are plain and undecorated, and the roof is covered with sheet metal. Sources assign the building to the 14th and 15th centuries.

The entrance is cut in the south wall: outside it is dressed with an architrave, inside it is arched. One window each sits in the east, south and west walls, and a shelf cornice finishes the walls.

On the east a semicircular apse holds an arched window on its axis narrowing outwards, with rectangular niches on either side. The conch rests on an arch above the shoulders, and the sanctuary was later raised by a step. A pair of two step pilasters stands at the middle of the long walls with matching half pilasters at the ends of the west wall, the vault arches spring from them, and decorative wall arches spring from the lower step.

💡 Tip

  • Masonry of ashlars of varied colour with no decoration
  • The apse window narrows towards the outside
  • The sanctuary was raised by a step at a later date
