The church of Khiza village is the church of an emptied settlement near Khizabavra, south of Aspindza. Khiza was deserted long ago, while the church remained standing amid the traces of the former life: a classic Javakheti plot where stone proves more lasting than the way of life.
People climb here for the quiet and the memory of the place: the ascent from Khizabavra is easy, and the reward is a valley panorama and a one-to-one talk with the past, without plaques or fences. A good pair to the Rokiti settlement church on the other side of Aspindza: two faces of one Javakheti story, and they are best seen on the same day.
The place is open and can be approached at any time: there are no services here. The masonry needs care: no climbing on the walls, no shifting of stones, no traces left.
