The Church of St. George stands in a forest near the village of Damala, not far from Aspindza. It is a hall church dating from the early feudal period, which local sources date to the 7th-8th centuries.
The church is flanked by an apse to the south, a narthex to the west, and a small chapel to the north. Well-dressed sandstone, tuff of various shades, and basalt blocks were used for the facades. The building is heavily damaged: the vault has collapsed, and large cracks run along the walls. Visitors also note signs of vandalism.
The location is forested. A stream flows through the gorge, and it is noticeably more beautiful in autumn due to the foliage.
