The chapel of the Holy Trinity belongs to the Armenian Apostolic Church, one of the oldest Christian traditions. The building is small: a chapel rather than a full church, and the interior is plainer than an Orthodox one.
In Samtskhe-Javakheti an Armenian shrine is not exotic but part of ordinary life: the communities have lived in these villages for centuries and their prayer houses stand alongside Georgian ones. Tskaltbila lies south of Akhaltsikhe, and the chapel occupies the upper part of the settlement.
Chapels like this were raised by a handful of families for everyday prayer, with no thought of pilgrims. There are no regular services, and you can walk up to the building during daylight hours.
