The church is dedicated to the Saviour. In Georgia such a dedication is less common than one to St. George or the Mother of God, and for that reason alone it deserves attention.
The village name is made of two Georgian words: water and warm. Warm water means a spring, around which Tskaltbila once grew. The church occupies the central part of the village and remains the main landmark for local people. It looks out over the surrounding hills, and the village south of Akhaltsikhe holds three Christian buildings in all.
The church is a working parish. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf, and silence is kept during services. Parts of the road are unpaved, and a low car is a poor choice here after rain.
