The church of St. George in Shkaleri is one of many shrines of this saint in Zemo Svaneti: nearly every other church here is dedicated to him.
Shkaleri lies in the Lenjeri valley, nine kilometres from Mestia. Neighbouring churches are many: four hundred metres away stands the Ipkhi church of St. George by Ienashi, seven hundred metres off the church of the Archangel in Kvanchianari, and a little further the shrines of Lahili.
