The church of St. John the Evangelist stands in the Lakhiri locality by Zhamushi village, seven kilometres from Mestia. The apostle and evangelist John is venerated all over Georgia.
From here the Majvdieri group of shrines begins: eight hundred metres away stand the Cholashi church of St. George and the church of St. Barbare, and a little further two more Cholashi churches and the Majvdieri church of the Holy Trinity.
