The church is dedicated to St. George, and its name comes from the locality of Tsikhe. The word tsikhe means fortress in Georgian, and in Racha such names usually belonged to churches standing by old defences or on a spot commanding the valley.

Sadmeli lies four kilometres from Ambrolauri, in the Rioni valley. The village gives the district several shrines at once: the Virgin Mary place of Kldisubani stands about seven hundred metres away, the ruins of a church a little over a kilometre. Further down the valley come the church of Znakva, the town church of Ambrolauri and the church of Bugeuli.

The church is a village one, services are not held every day, yet it can be seen from outside. Dress modestly, keep quiet inside. The road from Ambrolauri is short and passable all year, and the village itself is easier walked.
