The place carries a double name: Dzeli Cheshmaritebisa and Dzelitskhoveli. Both expressions in the Georgian tradition relate to the veneration of the Life giving Wood, that is the Cross: the first translates as the wood of truth, the second as the life giving wood, and different villages took to one or the other.
Shua Skhvava, that is middle Skhvava, lies seven kilometres from Ambrolauri. The neighbours here stand close together: the Trinity church of Zemo Skhvava about a kilometre and a half away, the salotsavi of St. Barbara a kilometre and a half, the church of the Archangel two and a half.
Three Skhvavas in one valley, upper, middle and lower, are easy to confuse, so follow the coordinates. The place is a village one and services are not held every day. Dress modestly, keep quiet inside, leave offerings untouched.
