Adgilis Deda translates from Georgian as the mother of the place. That is what revered Marian shrines of a village are called in Georgia, and here the name has stayed with a site by Tedzami.
The church of St Nino of the same village stands about two hundred and sixty metres away, the church of St George five hundred: three shrines fit into a circle of half a kilometre. The village name is written in two ways, Tedzami in Georgian and Tezami in Latin letters, which muddles a search by name.
The site is open, there are no gates, and you can come at any hour. The rules are those of any church: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet. The candles and what others have left are better left untouched, and for the search steer by the coordinates.
