The Marian house of Qobi stands by Didgori village. It is known in two ways: as a working fathers monastery and as the ruins of a church, and the difference is fundamental, so it is worth setting out here aware of both.
The Qobi here is not the one on the Georgian Military Road near Kazbegi: that lies far to the north, and a search by name leads exactly there. The nearest neighbours of this district, the Trinity of Martaziskhevi and the house of St Basil the Great at Tsodoreti, stand a little over four kilometres away.
There are no gates and no fence here, so you can come at any hour, though there is no constant attendance either. The rules are those of any house: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet. Steer by the coordinates, or it is easy to end up near Kazbegi.
