Samghereti is a place where a church once stood. The building has not survived, a naeklesiari is left, and its very name notes that the church was Georgian: shrines of the Georgian, Armenian and Greek traditions stand side by side in this district, and such qualifiers are usual here.
The spot lies near Lipi, east of Tetri Tskaro. The country is thinly settled, with several kilometres between villages, and the nearest described shrine, the church of the Mother of God in Kvemo Akhalsheni, is almost three kilometres away.
People come here to a trace rather than to a building. It is worth watching your feet: the masonry has sunk into the turf, and the outline of the walls shows only from close up.
