The church is dedicated to St Salome. The dedication is rare: Georgian villages more often keep to George, the Mother of God and Nicholas, while only a handful of churches bear the name of Salome.
The church stands in Kvemo Karabulaghi, west of Bolnisi. The district is thinly settled, villages are scattered along the slopes, and the nearest known shrine, the church of St George in Zurtaketi, lies some way off.
There are no regular services here and the church can be approached freely at any time. There is no gate and no fence, with pastures all around.
