The name of the church appears in two spellings, Akvanebi and Akvaneba, and it belongs to a place rather than to a dedication: no saint name is given for the church. That is ordinary in Kvemo Kartli villages, where toponyms displace dedications more often than in Kakheti.
Akaurta lies in the hilly part of the region, between Bolnisi and Tetri Tskaro. This neighbourhood is known above all for the Bolnisi Sioni and the ancient town site of Dmanisi, while the villages themselves are quiet and barely touched by tourism.
There is no fixed schedule of services and the site can be approached at any time. The roads in the hilly part of the region wind and are unpaved in places, so the drive takes longer than the distance suggests. The usual rules apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet inside.
