The church of St Barbara stands in Zemo Gurgeniani, a village of Lagodekhi Municipality. It is another shrine of the village: the church of St George was described first.
The Kakheti part of this district begins here. Zemo Gurgeniani lies north-west of Lagodekhi, in the foothills of the Caucasus range, right by the edge of the Lagodekhi reserve, where people go to see the waterfalls and beech forests.
There are no regular services and the church can be approached freely at any time. The place is open, without a fence, with pastures around it.
