A parish church of Saint George, the church of the upper half of the village. The prefix zemo in Kakhetian place naming means what the Imeretian zeda does: the upper part of a settlement. Gurgeniani is divided into an upper and a lower half, and the church belongs to the upper one.
The village lies north of Lagodekhi, in eastern Kakheti. The dedication and the place are known, while the century of building and any details have not survived, which is ordinary for the far Kakhetian villages.
The parish is small and there are no regular services. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. If the doors are locked, ask about the time in the village.
